Pharmacy technician
Duties and
responsibilities:
Pharmacy work in pharmacies under the direction
of a pharmacist. The pharmacy main responsibility is to fill in prescriptions
according to the doctors’ orders for the patients. Technicians measure out
correct amount of the medication from the large containers to prescription size
containers. Just in case, they add drugs into intravenous solutions. All of their
prescription filling work is rechecked by the pharmacist before the medications
are dispensed to the patients or the customers. Their other duties of pharmacy
technicians are:
· Check inventories and order the supplies
· Receive and check on the supplies
· Wait for the customers.
· Keep the pharmacy work area clean
· Help filling out the insurance forms.
The pharmacy technicians work in retail
pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and some large industrial complexes.
Average salary:
$15,000 - $25,000
Educational requirements:
Students should take math, science (especially
chemistry), and typing courses in high school.
A high school diploma is usually required to
begin pharmacy technician training. Two years courses leading to certificates
are available in most community colleges. Six month programs are offered at
privately operated schools.
